Workshop 9: A walk in the park
10 November 2016
Nunsmoor Park, Newcastle, UK
This workshop was hosted by Rachel Clarke and Simon Bowen at Open Lab, University of Newcastle, when Yoko Akama visited them in November 2016. The participants went through steps of preparing, experiencing, tracing and sharing uncertainty together as attitudes, rather than a methodology, to explore an urban park facing an uncertain future. Rather than locating uncertainty in the environment alone, the collective braced against the cold wind and rain, fortified by warming mince pies and cups of tea, to interrogate our ‘instruments’ of noticing and understanding. What if a camera can listen to the wind or feel the temperature?
The traces some of us made was compiled into a zine by Rachel Clarke and Cally Gatehouse. This can be downloaded here: A walk in the park
